Strategy and Innovation for Development Initiative, Ibadan Location Group carried out Health Outreach to mark the world malaria day in local community in Ibadan. The outreach was held at the densely populated Beere community predominantly dominated by the indigenes who are faced with WASH (Water, Hygiene and Sanitation) problems; they lack basic health care facilities leaving the larger population with high rate of malaria disease and water borne diseases like typhoid and diarrhea.
The Outreach featured:
- A walk against malaria by SI4DEV
- Health talk by the Oyo State Ministry of Health Representative, with focus on;
- Prevention and control of malaria (Sanitation, use of mosquito nets and repellants)
- Symptoms of Malaria
- Dangers of self-treatment etc.
The highlight of the program was
- Administering of free malaria test (RDT) for 140 participants (including women and children)
- Free antimalarial drugs
- Free repellent for 140 indigenes
- Free Long Lasting Insecticide- treated nets for those present.
The health outreach left joy on the faces of all those present, as the nets will go a long way in protecting them from mosquito bites and the free drugs will help them save. More importantly the sensitization will help them live healthy and contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
