Strategy and Innovation for Development Initiative (SI4DEV), Ibadan Location Group on Saturday 31st August 2019 carried out a project title ‘Igbo-ora Youth Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Training’ in Igbo-ora, Ibarapa Central Local Government Area, Oyo State. The project target was to empower youths between the ages of 15 to 30 years with life skills, enable them become self employed and economically Independent this is in line with the sustainable development goals 8, 1 and 3 (decent work and economic growth; no poverty; good health and well being), and thus reduction in crime rate in Igbo-ora community.
30 participants were trained on life skills with: 11 participants trained in Soap making and bleach making, 8 participants in Bead making and 11 participants in Confectionery, and Zobo making.
The participants were Secondary School drop outs who could not attend tertiary institutions because of finance, unemployed NCE holders and married youths.
The project aim was met as most participants produced some of the products in the different skills they were trained in.
The participants were filled with joy as they would start up their busineses with the skills they learnt, it would also help them become financially independent amongst others.
