SI4DEV was concerned about the COVID 19 pandemic which though seemingly slow in spreading across Nigeria will be a catastrophe if not well handled. We therefore collaborated with Topak Agro Services to “sensitize people especially the market men and women on the precautionary measures in order to curtail the spread of the virus”.
The Oyo state governor, at the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force, on March 21, 2020, indicated that campaign on Corona Virus prevention will be heightened and wash centers activated in market and public places.
Seeing that the proposed project was in line with Government plans, we encouraged our volunteers to join the Topak Agro outreach team and embark on market sensitization, which took place on the 26th of March at Bodija and Sango Market in Ibadan Oyo state. Market sensitization is imperative as many traders may be illiterate or have no access to internet or other media.
Results and Impacts:
A record of 300 market users were sensitized on food safety and preventive measures of Covid19. Hand gloves and face masks were given to the market users while sanitizers, tap buckets and hand wash were donated to the markets.
