On the 8th of April, we received a grant of NGN60,000 from SI4DEV, in response to our request for funding towards our Covid-19 relief project for our Ghetto Library Foundation.
We have a population of thirty kids in our Library for children in Kado kuchi, an underserved area of the city of Abuja. From our interaction with them before the lockdown, we realized they would be needing food and essential relief items during the lockdown period. The grant from SI4DEV came in very useful and it was disbursed as follows:
FOODSTUFF (rice, garri, tomato paste, beans, vegetable oil, milk) =NGN48,000 (forty-eight thousand naira)
CASH (given to e Samuels Academy-a tuition-free school for Fulani kids in Angbaku village, Nassarawa state where we also operate)= NGN10,000
TRANSPORT =NGN800 (eight hundred naira-to deliver foodstuff from the market)
DATA =NGN1000 (one thousand naira- for the young man who helps with the coordination in the ghetto to be able to send pictures
Once again, we thank Si4dev very much for the grant. We look forward to doing more with this organisation. The Ghetto Library Foundation is primarily concerned with helping children in inner cities and underserved areas develop interest in reading for pleasure; thereby reading their way out of the ghetto. We also help communities and individuals set up rural libraries in their communities. We provide scholarships, and assist with back-to-school necessities where possible.
With the assurance of our highest regards,
Elsie Oghenekaro
