Report on sensitization and distribution of food items at maraban rido in Chikun LGA and kakuri, Kaduna south LGA, Kaduna state.
The visit to the two communities came at a crucial time of hunger and starvation due to the lockdown imposed by the state governmen, though with partial movement within the state on selected days. People who need to go out before they can get what to eat with their families are over 70% in the two communities and with the lockdown it was difficult for them to have access to food for their families the widows were more affected not to say that, majority of the people in these communities depends on daily wages as they are predominantly hawkers and farmers.
The aim of our visit to the two communities was to educate the people on the need of social distancing, for them to know that the virus is real because as at then many were still not accepting the truth of the virus existence and constant washing of hands with soap under running water for at least 20 minutes or using hand sanitizer with a little demonstration.
Maraban rido and Kakuri community were visited on 15th of April 2020. They were provided with the following food items, (rice, beans, garri, bathing soaps, vegetable oil, salt, milk, tomato paste, palm oil, spaghetti and yam). Maraban rido is a semi urban town outskirt of kaduna metropolis with its population majorly subsistent farmers and petty traders while Kakuri is a small town in Kaduna metropolis.
The program started at 9:45am April 15th, the people were practically taught social distancing while taking their seats, they were also taught the origin of the COVID-19 virus and preventive measures through hand washing with soap and water which was demonstrated by Sam Yumar. After the session chance was given for questions which the team gave answers to all questions. Beneficiaries appreciated SI4DEV for the food items and the sensitation as being the first organization to show concern for the people in such terrible Time.
Distribution process.
About 40 house holds were provided with food items which the targets were comprised of more widows and orphans.
We further encourage beneficiaries to obey government rules by staying at home during the lock down and to observe social distancing always.
