The SI4DEV Covid-19 response and support project is aimed at providing food stuff, creating awareness and providing protective equipment to help fight corona virus and its effect on people.

As a result of the lock down to curtail the spread of the virus, a lot of people have been left in very dire situation because most of them survive daily or rather they were able to feed themselves and their families day to day through menial jobs. This is why SI4DEV Benue location decided to help such families.

In Makurdi, Benue state we were able to reach out to 20 families in different areas wood a food package in Makurdi Local Government Area namely wadata, High level (Idye village), Idye, Judges quarters and Gyado villa.

Each package contained:

Two tubers of yam

One pack of soap

Two sachets of vegetable oil

I sachet of salt

Two packs of spaghetti

Two mudus of Rice

One mudu of beans

One mudu of garri

One roll of sachet milk

One litre of palm oil

The recipients really appreciated the food items, some of them literally had nothing to eat the next day, some of them were wives to drivers who get paid daily but because of the lock down can no longer provide feeding allowance for the family. The women were becoming desperate that they could not provide adequate meals to their children, some had shops which no longer open because of the lock down.

The community volunteer team also educated the recipients on the ways they can protect themselves from getting infected with the coronavirus and urged them to try to practice washing of hands and avoiding crowds where possible.
