Adedokun Adeyemi Docyem is a Student Union Black and Asian Minority Officer at University of the West of England Bristol.
In the past seven years, volunteering and humanitarian service have been my goals. During my NYSC, I volunteered and was trained as an MDGs Development Knowledge Facilitator, which instigated my commitment to the development of my host community in Ebonyi state and carried out some personal projects. I built a 2-rooms water system toilet at my PPA, provided 50 school uniforms for less privileged pupils in five (5) primary schools, established a library in my PPA, to mention few. I emerged as the overall best corp member in February 2014 with an additional certificate of indigenization from HRH Ezeogo John Aloke. In 2016 I embarked on a charity project at Seed of Charity Home Akobo where I distributed first aid items, stationeries, foodstuffs and clothing. In 2018, I conveyed Docyem and Friends outreach where we distributed some palliatives to the victims of Jibia flood incident in Katsina state. I organized a free medical check-up, Hepatitis B screening and Medical counselling in conjunction with Alafia International Clinic and Maternity, Jibia Katsina State in 2019. Recently here in the UK, I made it to the semi-final stage for The Vice-Chancellors Award for Representation at the UWE Student Experience Award as a result of my commitment for providing help to international students and BAME society at large.
I am passionate about helping people with a track record of conceptualizing and implementing several charity projects in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. My master’s program in Public Health at the University of the West of England Bristol has increased my quest for mental health awareness, and I am hoping to lunch Docyem Foundation after my studies as well as partnering with NGOs with similar goals.
His Advice to youth is : You may think your light is small, but it can make a huge difference in other people’s lives. You have never lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.
