September 5th has been declared by the United Nations General Assembly as the international day of Charity, to raise awareness for charity related activities all over the world for individuals and organizations. Each time the word “charity” is mentioned, one name that keeps resonating in my mind is Mother Theresa, known in the Catholic Church as Saint Theresa of Calcutta, who devoted her life to caring for the sick and poor.

We may not all show the same level of charity as did Mother Theresa, but there is always something we can do for our world and people around us who are in need of acts of charity. True love will always reveal itself in our service to human and humanity.

When we show acts of Charity, it should be devoid of religious, ethnic, racial, gender, or educational affiliations to those whom we decide to show kindness. Below are some of her notable quotes

If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one”

Love cannot remain by itself – it has no meaning. Love has to be put into action, and that action is service”

“We do not need guns and bombs to bring peace, we need love and compassion”

“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love” – Mother Theresa.

Dear SI4DERS, I urge you to keep the flames of service burning as this is one means by which we may do acts of charity, though service that is not done out of love is self-serving.

Finally, I sum it up with this quote from the Bible book of 1 Corinthians 13.

Charity suffereth long, and is kind;

Charity envieth not;

Charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

Does not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
