The abuse of prescription drugs is a national crisis, one that has state and federal government agencies scrambling yet making scant progress in curtailing. SI4DEV Kogi Lokoja Location has proposed an advocacy sensitization on drug abuse to secondary schools in the 21 local government of Kogi State to enlighten the students about the negative effects of drug abuse on them as young leaders of this generation.

Two secondary schools were selected as a start in the state capital, namely: Bishop Delise College, Lokoja and Al-Ansar Secondary School, Lokoja in the month of July, 2018.

Lokoja location group were given 12th July, 2018 which was written on the letter to Bishop Delise Secondary School Lokoja, and we embarked on a sensitization advocacy.

On arrived at the school at 8:30am we were given a warm welcome by the Vice Principal Academic (Mrs. Yakubu) and some staffs. Thereafter assembly began and we were introduced by the Mrs. Yakubu to address the students.

The spokes person of the group Samuel Unekwu Elias introduced other members of the group and Si4dev and also extensively explain the purpose and importance of the visit.

Thereafter Kareem Onivehu give lecture on drug abuse and the effect and cause of drug abuse and how to proffer solution of drug abuse and Samuel Unekwu Elias crown it all, also ended the sensitization by thanking the Management of the school, for the opportunity given to them.

We were unable to inaugurate the clubs because the sensitization was done during the assembly hour and the student were preparing for their last exams, but we met with the VP Academic, Mrs. Yakubu who urge us to bring back the advocacy again and also ask us to be visiting regular for follow-up, and the compound/social master Mr. Ibrahim urge us to return back when the school has resume for the next session and also we should try and inaugurate the Club for them as soon as possible.
